Flowering tree

Flowering tree

Does anyone know the name of this tree?
I got it all wrong and now someone has asked me what it is called

No garden but two balconies, one facing south and the other north.
Most of my plants are succulents which need little care

I am afraid I can't help you but I will be watching with interest as this is the tree which lines the street in Rome where a friend lives. Fingers crossed somebody can help out.

I have a small garden in Rome, Italy. Some open soil, some concrete, some paved. Temperatures in winter occasionally down to 0°C. Summer temperatures up to 40°C in the shade. There are never watering restrictions but, of course, there is little natural water for much of June, July and August.

It looks like the purple leaf plum, Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra'
It was used a lot as a street tree in Melbourne too
