Grasses : a very delicate Briza minor ("Quaking grass")

Facing East, a hillside at Vouliagmeni, East of Athens.
A few meters away from the Eagean sea.

I was exploring the phrygana with my camera (awaiting the evening to compare the shooting with my two bibles, Mrs Tyrwhitt's "Making a garden on a greek hillside" and Oleg Polunin's "Flowers of Europe").
And found this tiny grass call "amourette" here in France, because of its heart-shaped pendulous spikelets.

A very handsome annual grass.
Area : Med. Europe and Portugal.

It's a pity because this grass is very difficult to find in french nurseries for my garden projects, whereas B. media and B. maxima are more easy to purchase...

B and T World Seeds at Aigues-Vives, France offer B minor seed.

I have gardened in sub-tropical Florida, maritime UK, continental Europe and the Mediterranean basin, France. Of the 4 I have found that the most difficult climate for gardening is the latter.

We have found in Greece that gathering the ripe "lanterns" of the seed and simply scattering it quickly establishes worthwhile small colonies. It is a very "well-behaved" grass!

This is good news. Next time I see one in the landscape I'll harvest the seeds and try to grow it in Nafplio... Thanks for the advice
