The island of Mainau (Insel Mainau) near the Swiss border in Lake Constance (Bodensee), Germany, is a wonderful place in the time of tulips (April), roses (June) and dahlias (August). It has wonderful mature trees as well. Orchid exhibition every March. Obviously no mediterranean climate, but temperate and very mild.

The tulips remind me of the Dutch Keukenhof.
