On that same trip in Northern Greece we came across this demure little thing, which I thought was Viola reichenbachiana....

yes - though it is just the one photo, I'm pretty sure it is V. reichenbachiana, though the veining on the lower petal is somewhat V. riviniana in character. It is very widespread in Europe.
