When I looked up dandelion there appeared to be too many to choose from.
We saw this at Belem, Lisbon near the river estuary.
Any ideas

Once more many thanks for the quick identification.
It isn't in my flowers of the Mediterranean book.
I had tried  looking for it many times  on various wild flowers of Portugal sites.
Then  decided that life is too short to spend so many hours looking for a dandelion

We saw this At Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of continental Europe,  in April 2008.
Is it  some relative of Arctotheca calendula which was identified  on this Forum a couple of days ago.
The leaves  appear to be round and the flowers have more petals.
Any ideas?

Hilary it is the same species, Arctotheca calendula.

I enjoy this flower very much. It seems to be quite prolific but not invasive here. If you look closely at the centres they are almost metallic navy blue in the sunshine, joyous against the soft sulphur yellow of the petals.
I work in hotel and private gardens, promoting sustainable landscape management in the mediterranean climate through the use of diverse, beautiful and appropriate plants. At home, I garden on two balconies containing mostly succulents.

It is really attractive but always behaves as an annual. Is this normal, Oron?
