Snakes
« on: October 21, 2011, 08:23:04 AM »
Removing some pots on my terrace I found a small snake.
It is Macroprotodon mauritanicus, a snake which became rare the last years so I am happy it feels at home in my garden. As I know this nocturnal species feeds small geckos and larger insects - maybe this is one of the reasons I have not seen Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa for many years in my garden which can cause serious damage in plantroots -  it does not seem to affect the number of geckos seriously.

Thank you for bringing snakes on to the Forum, Hans. I welcome them in the garden where they hide out in the scruffy corners which I never get around to tending. I need someone like you to identify them, though, because I'm too slow reacting to get a good look as they slide away.
