THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 7, Winter 1996/7

This article is about the difference between Mediterranean gardens and how, because of the different climate, they are not English gardens.

On page iv opposite the article is a full-page illustration of
WINTER FLOWERING SHRUBS by Derek Toms which I scanned for you

Unfortunately, I don’t seem to have seen any of these winter flowering shrubs, apart from Rosemary, to snap them.
 I do have a couple of scans of postage stamps, quite different in style, featuring Rosmarinus officinales , Rosemary

Hilary, this reminds me of the time a few years ago that I visited a newly opened hardware store here in Cyprus. They had obviously not done their research very well as I found an entire section dedicated to mole traps and equipment for deterring moles. Moles are not native to Cyprus, there isn't a single one on the island.

HIDDEN GOLD AND MISSING SILVER

The shrub Heimia salicifolia, Shrubby yellowcrest is the hidden gold in this article

And Teucrium fruticans, Tree Germander the missing silver 

I can’t say I have seen Heimia salicifolia so here is a scan of the drawing illustrating the article

Then a scan of the drawing of Teucrium fruticans and photos of an impressive hedge seen in the Alsos Goudes, Sparta
