Cistuses in flower
« on: May 11, 2019, 06:48:51 PM »
We have three Cistus species in our garden (and everywhere else around here), C. salviifolius, C. creticus and C. monspeliensis; this year they are flowering more profusely than ever. C. salviifolius was in bloom already when we arrived here in Halkidiki more than a month ago, and it is still going strong together with the two other cistuses.

They are beautiful and don't need watering. The sides of the hills near us are full of them. It is a joy to walk by them.
I garden in Cyprus, in a flat old farming field, alt. approx. 30 m asl.

We have a few cistus around the garden.
This is a hybrid called 'Bennet's White' which grows by a shed in a bed which doesn't get irrigated so it's wonderful to see how it grows and flowers relying just on rainfall. Each flower is about 7cm across,
cheers

That's a lovely one with the slightly frilly petals.😊
