“LOTUS FRUIT, GREECE”

Persimmon, Diospyros kaki, Lotus is mentioned in many issues of
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN

The cover illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 31, January 2003 is by Polly Morris

It depicts Sea Campion, Silene maritima, and Rock Samphire, Crithum maritimum

I have a photo of Crithum maritimum taken in 1996 on the island of Skyros.
It was growing in what remains of an ancient quarry on the beach at Puria / Πουριά

Crithum maritimum is mentioned in several issues of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN, I have chosen number 95, January 2019 for you to read

The cover illustration for the journal number 32, April 2003 is a lithograph by Adrian Bartlett entitled ‘Palm and balcony, Nice’

There are several articles about Palm trees in the same journal

Unfortunately, there is no more information about the scene depicted, however in the same journal there is an article by Freda Cox
THE SWEET POTATO (Ipomoea batatas)

Earlier, on the day when I was preparing this post, I was desperately trying to find a recipe for sweet potatoes on my computer or in old recipe books, my computer suddenly, for no reason that we could understand, was continuously off line.
Next time my husband brings home sweet potatoes I hope he brings two oranges also so that I make the meal Freda recommends

The cover illustration for the Journal 36, April 2004 is by Kostas Beveratos and shows the chapel of Aghia Fotini on the island of Patmos

I don't have a photo of this chapel but I do have a photo of Patmos taken from a boat in 1987 showing a chapel in the foreground and the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian dominating the skyline. We were on a day trip from Chios and spent a long time in the monastery and its museum

The second photo was from a cruise ship which didn't tie up in Patmos and anyone wanting to visit the island was taken off the ship in a launch, we gave this a miss

The illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 37, July 2004 is by Nicholas Stavroulakis,
who I believe lived on Crete for many years .

Looking through the journal for an article about Crete I found this

The cover illustration of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 40, April 2005 
 by Ken Ersser, is of the Kaisariani Monastery

If I remember correctly, the scanned photo of the monastery in the snow was from  a Christmas card which we received many years ago and which  I had stuck in a scrap book.
 
This monastery is mentioned in THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 27, January 2002 in THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, ATHENS 2001

The cover illustration of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 42, October 2005 is a drawing of the Giralda in Seville by Nicholas Stavroulakis

I don’t have a photo of the Giralda but I do have photos taken from the top to share with you. One of the photos even features the orange trees which are in the drawing of the cover illustration

In the same journal there are several articles about plants and places to visit in Spain
Although not about Seville I think you will find this interesting
