Eryngium maritimum, Sea Holly

The cover illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 43, January 2006 is by Polly Morris.

I was lucky enough to find these two photos of Eryngium maritimum in my archives. The photos were taken in August 2006 on the beach near Maronia in the region of East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece.

Sea Holly is mentioned several times in THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN. Today I point you to issue number 52, April 2008 to read

Helleborus orientalis, Lenten Rose

The cover illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 64, April 2011 is by Megan Toms

I have several photos of different Hellebores none of which I have identified.

It would be great if someone could put a name to them.

Pomegranates

The cover illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 95 January 2019 is by Maggie Niagassas.

It is pomegranate time again and I once more found something in the house depicting pomegranates. It would be interesting to know just what the message in an Asian language says. I will post photos of both sides of the wooden plaque.

Looking through the above mentioned journal I searched for references to pomegranates and was pleased to find such a topical subject.
