Arisaema sikokianum, Japanese Jack-in-the-pulpit.

The cover drawing by Megan Toms of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 56, April 2000.

Unfortunately I don't have a photo to share with you.
I can't find a reference to this plant in the journal either.

Here is a link if you want to read about this plant.

Hilary, the attached photos were taken in 2015 on a MGS trip to the Epirus region of Greece.

Papaver rhoeas

The cover illustration by Yvonne Linardos of the very first issue of
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN

The photo was taken on our recent two- day coach trip to Mani, Peloponnese.
Most of the photos I took on the trip feature stone, dilapidated stone houses and stone walls although the area was much greener, and yellower,  than I remembered from our last drive there.

This poppy, as you can imagine, is mentioned in many articles of
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN

Cabbage Rose

The cover illustration of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 60, April 2010, is by Megan Toms

I don't have any photos of a rose  named “cabbage rose” but from what I understand it is a rose with many petals.
Here are three photos of many petalled roses from my archives, two actually named.
One taken somewhere in Sparta in November  2011
‘Josephine Hooker’ seen in a garden center in the wilds of Essex, September 2013
‘Scepter’d Isle ‘ in the garden of Westminster Abbey , September 2013

Now to find something about cabbage roses in THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN
There are dozens of references to named roses but not the two I saw in the UK and not a mention of cabbage roses
Instead I am pointing you to read ENCHANTED BY SERRALVES by Ann Semaan Beisch where an old rose garden is mentioned

Hilary the roses are equally beautiful. I enjoyed looking at them trying to decide which I liked best. Our roses are almost over as it is too hot for them. The Pierre de Ronsard/i] are taking the heat.  One stick with 9 roses. Now it is time for our Rosa moschata. It has grown all over the mulberry tree but I decided to allow it to  flower before I get the pruning shears out.  My excuse is that they have a wonderful perfume.

Iris
The cover illustration for THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN Number 46, October 2006 was by Megan Toms.

We saw the white iris one March in Mystras and the other two one March in Madrid.

It looks as if there is hardly an article in THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN which does not mention Irises.

Bougainvillea glabra and Bougainvillea glabra var. sanderiana

The cover drawing of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 92, April 2018     is by Veronica Hadjiphani-Lorenzetti

Here are a couple of photos of our Bougainvillea in their healthier times. This year they got a horrible disease and I have had to cut them down. Now I am wondering if we shouldn't just buy a new plant rather than wait to see if the old ones regenerate. I do like the balcony, where we spend untold hours in the summer, to be presentable.

I was spoiled for choice of articles mentioning Bougainvillea in
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN so in the end chose an article I have not referred to in the past.
COLOURS by Caroline Harbouri in issue number 44, April 2006.

Bougainvillea glabra ‘Sanderiana’ is mentioned in
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 10, Autumn 1997 in
THE VILLA ARIADNE:
AN EDWARDIAN GARDEN IN CRETE by Flavio Zanon

I prepared this blurb a while ago and can now report that the pink Bougainvillea plant is producing bright green shoots and the purple plant has just decided to come out of its sulk

Crataegus azarolus, Hawthorn

The cover illustration of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 74, October 2013, is by Veronica Hadjiphani-Lorenzetti

I am re posting the photos I took of Crataegus azarolus, helpfully named, which I took several years ago when we visited Cyprus.

Veronica Hadjiphani-Lorenzetti writes in the same journal an article with the title
CRATAEGUS AZAROLUS

There has been a discussion this week about Hawthorn on this very Forum, you might find it interesting

Cyclamen hederifolium, Ivy-leaved cyclamen

The cover illustration of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 76, April 2014, is by Marjorie Holmes.

I don't seem to have any photos of the leaves of Cyclamen hederifolium but here are a few photos of the leaves of other Cyclamen.

Cyclamen hederifolium is mentioned in many issues of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN.
