The extreme storms suffered in many areas of Italy recently have caused extensive damage to trees in some areas. The Venetian region was particularly badly hit with large areas of coniferous woodland razed to the ground. It seemed as if the trees suffered a 'domino' effect - not surprising when you consider how closely planted, in narrow rows, many of of these plantations are.
