THE EVROTAS RIVER IN SPARTA, PELOPONNESE
We went to the banks of the Evrotas, mid-June, to hear a talk about the health of the river and the fish which live in it. Apparently where we were sitting, and where the two photos of the river were taken, is under water during the winter
The river is easily reached by a road and path next to it. There had been some attempt to make this area a park a few years ago and, although there were already Willow trees by the side of the river, Poplar trees, London Plane trees and Albizia were added. Of course the was also the ubiquitous Oleander.
For those able to scramble down to the river a lovely place to sit quietly and enjoy the river flowing over the pebbles, the trees waving in the breeze and the frogs croaking

If you approach Sparta from the north this stretch of the river is on your right just before the bridge
