We haven't had one of these for a long time so maybe it's time to get the little grey cells working.

No wild guesses? No-one feeling at home with this?

Made me think of a white Dianella
I have a small garden in Rome, Italy. Some open soil, some concrete, some paved. Temperatures in winter occasionally down to 0°C. Summer temperatures up to 40°C in the shade. There are never watering restrictions but, of course, there is little natural water for much of June, July and August.

Sorry, David, not even close. Perhaps looking skywards to the East might help. ???

Jorun, on the right track for the common name as Venus is a celestial body. Could that possibly be a grass track?

It's very much smaller than that, Hilary. The clues were meant to help not bamboozle.

I have never looked at the flowers of Nandina domestica before. Perhaps I should have. Never knew it was called "Holy" or "Heavenly Bamboo" either.
Now, I think, I have understood the clue about feeling at home, looking east etc. Or maybe I haven't?

Sorry, Hilary. David picked up the majority of the hints. Not wild, feeling at home, ie domesticated (domestica). Looking east and upwards - the plant comes from the east, look up into the heavens. Similarly Venus being a celestial (heavenly) body. The grass track - bamboo is in the grass family. I know that Nandina isn't but I did stipulate the common name. I thought that the bamboo in bamboozle might be picked up. Well done, David.
