Two pots of what look like daisies flowering in my friend's garden mid April.
Does anyone know their proper name?

Hi Hilary - to me they look like a couple of the smaller cultivars of Argyranthemum frutescens (syn. Chrysanthemum frutescens - aka Paris daisy).  They grow very easily from cuttings if you wanted to beg  a piece or two from your friend. I have a nice white one from a piece filched from a nearby garden  :o

I am establishing a garden on Waiheke Island, 35 minutes out of Auckland. The site is windy, the clay soil dries out quickly in summer and is like plasticine in winter, but it is still very rewarding. Water is an issue, as we depend on tanks. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas. Caroline

Caroline,
Thanks for the identification of my friend's daisies.
She bought them this year and she is very pleased with them.
I told her to take cuttings.
