Fermi, I'm so glad Mike's answered this! At least ten years ago we planted one in the unwatered part of our hot south-facing garden in the south of Greece (just giving it monthly heavy waterings in its first year). Exposed to sun in that hot position (and not mulched or anything) it has survived even the longest hot summer droughts. But that's all - survived. It's barely grown an inch in all that time. So basically our experience seems to be how NOT to do it!

Too much of a chicken to try planting it out in summer :-[
It was in flower when we got it in early summer and has now started to re-bloom
