Hi all,

I realise this one is somewhat of a long shot but maybe somebody can recognise this tree without it's leaves please.
We are about to landscape that area of the garden so would like to know what that is if possible before we start.

Any ideas?

My long shot would be that it is some kind of fruit tree but there are plenty of members more expert than I on that identification.Actually I am intrigued by the 'netting' on the top of your wall. What are you trying to keep out? Surely not a big red kangaroo?

Well it could be a fruit tree although I can say for sure that there have been no fruit on it during summer/autumn. I can't speak for the first 6 months of the year as we have only been in this house since July.

The netting?
Well who knows why that is there, it's some real flimsy garden edging soft wire type stuff. It's possible the previous owners put it up to keep the stay cats out but if that is the case it doesn't work.
Probably just to extend the wall height a bit as it is only about 4ft tall as it is.

Soon we will put a proper height extension of some kind up, more for privacy than anything else.

Just gone out and found some old seeds on a branch and a load of them on the ground, not sure if that is helpful.

The only thing that comes to my mind is Cercis siliquastrum.
I would suggest to leave it for the moment... it should flower soon...than we can confirm it

Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't mind if it is one of them, I just checked and there are some buds swelling and look as if they are about to break out so I don't think it will be very long.

I will post pics of it when it happens.

An update as promised, it has been a bit slow breaking out but there is finally some green coming through.
I don't think it is a Judas tree as the leaves are serrated.

hi, could it be a Hibiscus syriacus?.Our is just started putting out leaves.

I think you may be right, I even had a double take to compare the leaves with a near by Hibiscus but not being familiar with the syriacus I dismissed it.
Definitely seems to be though, thanks all. That has been bugging me all winter.
