Trypi near Mystras, Peloponnese
« on: June 22, 2015, 03:00:43 PM »
This delightful green spot is off the road between Sparta and Kalamata.
I didn't make it to the waterfall and pool  as I wasn't wearing the proper shoes to cross the stream and the path was deemed too dangerous for me.
However, I enjoyed myself lying near the 'river' under the Plane trees listening to the leaves rustling and the stream bubbling.
My son took these photos of what I had missed

Hello Hilary. How peaceful and cool it looks. We could do with some running streams here too. The sun has been scorching tender leaves. My Salvia patens 'Blue Angel' was suffering so I donated my Florence straw hat to shade it.
I garden in Cyprus, in a flat old farming field, alt. approx. 30 m asl.

Part two of the Trypi post

The Knakionas River flowing from the waterfall is  named the Magoulitsa at the village of Magoula.
It joins the Evrotas somewhere south of Sparta.

The Oleander bushes were nothing like the thick bushes we see lining the national road and planted in the Corinth pavements.
They were all tall thin plants  stretching up to the light to get a glimpse of the sky through the Plane tree leaves.

Can you see the exposed roots of the tree on the other bank?
There were signs that this stream overflows its banks when in spate

Part three of the Trypi post

An Oleander branch horizontal to the ground and many new Oleander bushes, in the making, rising towards the sun

The last of my photos from Trypi
A rock covered in Ivy and Lichen.
Two lizards thinking they had the place to themselves until I moved
