Carrots
« on: March 16, 2015, 09:02:13 AM »
Having recently seen some rather unpalatable looking purple carrots in our local supermarket I was interested to discover today that purple and yellow were the original colours of carrots way back as far as the 11th century possibly. Strange how appearance can influence us as I love the flavour of carrots but had no desire to try what I considered a "new" variety.

Interestingly I first tasted purple carrots only a couple of days ago. They were purple on the outside with an orange core. Very tasty - I would recommend them.  I was even contemplating growing some myself.
I also understood that the orange ones were bred from the original purple ones.
