This new park was planted during 2013 and inaugurated in September 2013.
The sign above the gate notes "That when a tree falls, there is no shade anymore"
The notice board stating the park rules is self explanatory
These photos were taken at the end of May 2014 after the first winter of the planting

Roses and Taygetos.
Roses do well in Sparta.
They are even planted in the islands dividing  some of the roads

Bougainvillea, the only one to survive the first winter.
Bougainvillea are very few and far between in Sparta.

The "Educational Garden" at the Alsos Goudes in Sparta
This garden is in a corner of the Alsos and as yet un named.
All the photos are from May 2014
Miriam identified the Achillea millefolium for me on the this Forum and Oron Peri identified the striped insect for me, again on the Forum

Soon it will be time to see how the plants have fared after this winter

Do you know who's responsible for the garden, and maintains it, Hilary? I wonder how much schools there are involved....

Here is the link for the Alsos Goudes it is in both English and Greek.

My photos on the Forum focused on the planting more than the installations

Some photos from the Alsos Goudes on a too hot sunny day in October ,
The pergolas were included in the plan and intended to help support Bougainvillea .
However, Bougainvillea plants don't like the climate in Sparta.
I think this is the only one which has survived
