Hairy plant of the pea family ID'd by Miriam as Ononis pubescens

This plant was about 50 cms high  when we saw it in May.
It was growing on the sandy small hill near the ancient port of Lechaion.
Sorry I didn't get down to take a photo from the side and not only from above.
Has anyone any ideas of its proper name?
