MGS Excursion: Wild Flowers in Epirus, 18 – 25 May 2015

A treat for lovers of wild flowers in the Greek mountains of Epirus
Chris Gardner, who has led many MGS excursions in the past, will lead this trip in the mountains of north-west Greece centred on the villages of Metsovo and Papingo. Spring comes late in the mountains so there should be masses of wild flowers and the peaks may still be snow-covered. During this excursion we aim for minimum bus travel and plenty of walking around the mountain villages of Papingo and Metsovo (as the weather allows). We plan to visit Valia Kalda, a nature reserve which is the habitat of wild bears, descend the Vradeto steps cut into a sheer rock face but wide enough for two people and a donkey, hunt mushrooms, walk through the Vikos Valley and much more with Chris spotting and identifying the multitude of flowers. Participants will be met at and returned to Ioannina King Pyrrhus (of Pyrrhic victory fame) Airport. Please email MGSforeignexcursions@gmail.com if you would like details.
