Fritillaria graeca

There were masses of Fritillaria graeca alongside 'Nikos's' new path on Hymettos. Imperfect photos from phone again.

Beautiful fritillarias.
Retired veterinary surgeon by training with a PhD in parasitology,  but worked as a virologist since 1992.
Member of the MGS  since 2004. Gardening in Oslo and to a limited extent in Halkidiki, Greece.

I grew this from seed labelled Frit gussichiae but it looks to me to be a very dwarf form of fritillaria graeca; what do others think?

Fritillaria graeca is certainly quite variable in shape of petals and colour, and possibly height as well.

Here's mine purchased this year from Marcus and flowering now.


Long hot summers, mild wet winters. Rainfall approx. 600mm pa.
Summer maximums over 40 degrees, winter minimums occasionally below freezing.
Gardening on neutral clay loam and sandy loam.

Fritillaria
Growing in a pot, first outside then in the house.
Last year we only had one flower so were thrilled with three this year.
The bulbs came from the UK and I think the packet just said Fritillaria

No garden but two balconies, one facing south and the other north.
Most of my plants are succulents which need little care

Fritillaria uva -vulpis naturalise very quickly when happy, a welcome addition to any spring garden and good in
pots too.
