I thought this was going to be easy but it turns out there are two to choose from
Selenicereus anthonyanus
or
Epiphyllum anguliger
Anyone any ideas ?]
Or do I have to keep passing by the balcony it is on to see flowers ?

I'd go for the Selenicereus myself... which means some night-time walks for you!

It does look like
Selenicereus anthonyanys
but in order to be 100% sure we need to see the flower.
There are quite a few named hybrids between Selenicerus and Epiphyllum and the only way to separate them is by the color and form of flower.

It does indeed look like Cryptocereus (the old name; the current one is Selenicereus) anthonyanus. Didi you manage to spot the flowers?

Not seen any flowers yet.
What time of year would I expect to see them?

Expect flowers in June/July, and maybe into late summer.
