The Monastery of Saint George the Dragon Slayer at Pheneos.
The monastery was built in the 17th century when the old monastery was submerged under water which filled the valley.

The monks here  make a sweet jam of Rose petals a tiny plateful of which  is offered to visitors. The covered balcony has seats where the jam can be eaten and the view enjoyed. Unfortunately there was a thick mist when we were there but for a second the mist cleared and I was able to snap this mountain looming.

We were there in February so did not see the roses in bloom round the entrance or on the  wooden cross.
There are many pots in the yard with  pruned Hydrangeas and the ubiquitous old feta tin with a Camellia growing in it in.

Limni Doxa, Doxa Lake.
An artificial lake created a few years ago.
The old church of Saint George was left and a causeway made to connect it with the bank of the new lake.
The church was also re dedicated to Saint Phanourios.
We were there ten years ago and I didn't think to take a photo of the same view this year. The causeway is now lined with trees and bushes and a few stalls selling local products.
The surrounding forest is of pine trees and fir trees. Abies cephalonica
The reflections of the snow capped mountains Ziria, Chelmos and Dourdouvana  are very beautiful on a crisp winter day.

The Environment Museum of Stymphalia.
A new museum built with a view over the lake.
The museum deals with every aspect of the life of the people living near the lake, the history of the lake and surrounding area, the birds using it and the plants growing in it.
The notices for the canes and the nests were very informative

" Phragamites australis  , Common reed, Νεροκάλαμο
Grows during winter and blossoms in summertime, usually in dense groups.
Height up to 6m.

Eleocharis palustris, Common spikerush , Καλάμι
Grows in water up to 1m. deep
Produces fruits after the age of 2-3 years old
height up to 1.5m.

Woven nest
It is attached to reeds, high above the water level.
It is made by flycatchers and bitterns

Floating nest
It is attached to aquatic vegetation on water level.
It is made by grebes, coots and a few species of duck

The nests have been made by volunteers of the Youth Centre of Corinthia "

The museum  and the lake are well worth a visit. there is a bird viewing platform at the museum complete with binoculars.
We have had several enjoyable spring picnics at various places round the lake.
One year we went on May 1st and there was a traffic jam in the village!
Usually we had the whole lake to ourselves.
