Spanish plant nurseries
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:03:52 PM »
Alisdair, you told me that the criteria of the list of plant suppliers is restricted to nurseries that only send by mail order etc.   At the moment there is not one Spanish nursery in the list (probably they dont do mail order) but there are plenty of members both in Spain and France who could visit Spanish nurseries/growers to collect plants.
I do know of one specialist producer of Spanish and Mediterranean autochthonous plants ….Cultidelta near Amposta in Catalunya.   It has a fascinating collection of plants and it would be a valuable resource for members who can drive there.

I am looking for some specialist tree nurseries in Spain (Spain is a major grower of trees/palms and plants ) and I have been told there are some around Barcelona.  But I don’t know of them.
If anyone has information please let me know.
Thanks

Good point, Pamela - about driving to collect plants.
I'm reluctant to add such places to the main downloadable list as that is so firmly meant to be for universal access, but it would be a very good idea to mention them here, or perhaps have separate within-country lists for. And as you know yourself there are nurseries in other countries such as the UK (and I know also Greece and Portugal) which don't export but which might be well worth visiting to collect plant, for people who live within driving distance.

Cultidelta (http://www.cultidelta.com/) exports to several countries. I have visited their nursery, it was huge, everything was well marked and they had a good selection of Mediterranean plants at reasonable prices.

Try Elche.  They have a renowned Palm (Date and Fan) nursery.  I believe that the Deglet Nour variety of date was brought over here from Israel.

I think it's about time we had a Resources page on the MGS web site. I'll be back asking for for favourite nurseries without them having to do mail order.
