I have a two year old Caryota Mitis and nearly lost it last year, it died back badly when I planted it in early spring but came back quite well in the summer after I transplanted it to a large pot. I wonder if any of our members have any hints or tips on this plant? I like it very much but do wonder if it is better suited as an "indoor" or in a very sheltered location within the Mediterranean area?

The fish-tail palm is frequently found in Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma (Myanmar), Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and in the Tropical north of Australia. It is widely used in landscaping golf courses, hotel resorts, shopping centres and parks. From the little I know of Cyprus - winter snows - it seems it would be best treated as a tubbed plant that can be taken into protection in winter. tn
