Pancratium maritimum
« on: October 30, 2014, 10:49:01 AM »
I have just harvested 18 seeds from my Pancratium maritimum  - they look like pieces of liquorice  :)
What should I do now? - should they be planted immediately and in what kind of medium?

Now is the right time to sow the seeds.
Sow them in a gritty mix 5mm deep.

Our Pancratium plants come back every year without fail. Below is the first of this season.
Cyprus Branch Head. Gardens in a field 40 m above sea level with reasonably fertile clay soil.

This was a response to something I discovered was an old posting, but it seems to be impossible to remove it completely.

Our plants were grown from seed collected on a beach in Crete around 8 years ago so they have by now got substantial underground storage organs and come back stronger every year. We sow seeds from them into free-draining soil and they germinate well.
