The stunning sepals are the highlight: if you touch them, they feel like plastic. The normally epiphytic plant from the Solanaceae family can be easily grown in normal soil. But don't water too much! The first few years you have to tie on the weak shoots. Flowers nearly the whole year round. Don't be afraid, when the leaves are falling down in late winter: it is only semi-evergreen.

In hot mediterranean gardens it appreciates a bit of shade. It won't take frost, so in cooler places might be best in a pot, taken under cover in cold weather.
In the past people have called this handsome plant a Datura or Brugmansia, either floribunda or coccinea.
