Title: Lysimachia atropurpurea
Post by: Fleur Pavlidis on May 31, 2012, 11:08:44 AM
We saw this lovely sight along a road in the mountains of central Greece. I've identified it as Lysimchia atropurpurea from my books although the illustration in Blamey's Wild Flowers of the Mediterranean doesn't show the characteristic bowing of the head. It isn't mentioned in my books on garden plants, but it's so desireable that I'd love to go back and get cuttings in the autumn.

Very handsome, Fleur! If you go back at the right time, collecting seed should get you plants flowering in their second year. It may find your garden a bit too hot in summer?

That's the joy of having two gardens - as you know. We'll forget about the woes.

We also saw this on our trip to northern Greece with the MGS in the Vikos gorge.
