Title: Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) - pollination issue
Post by: MikeHardman on April 20, 2012, 02:23:37 PM
I have just bought a plum tree from a local nursery - Prunus salicina 'Formosa'.

The internet tells me it, as a Japanese plum, is likely to need another, of a different cultivar, for cross-pollination to be effective. And that second tree also needs to be a Japanese type, because European ones won't work (which is a shame because there are enough almonds around here).

Does anyone have experience of growing (and fruiting) Japanese plums in a Med. climate?
Can anyone recommend a suitable second cultivar?

Thanks in advance.
