Title: Stipa tenuissima
Post by: Daisy on January 27, 2012, 10:09:48 AM
I have sown some Stipa tenuissima but have found so far, that it is not as happy here as I thought it would be.
Germination has been a little erratic.
The ones that have grown, have become brown over the tips of the leaves during winter.
I am sure (hopeful) that come the spring, they will perk up. 8) 8) 8)
The photos are from my previous garden in Cornwall.

Look out for the self-sets.  I stopped growing all the Stipas.  The seeds I suspect are wind borne and the new seedlings are always within a metre or two of the host plant.  Stipas are noxious in Australia??

I have seen them thriving in a hot very well drained rock garden. Seedlings were found all over the place. Tenuissima is in the genus Nasella now.
