BEST-KEPT SECRET
By Tim Longville
THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 10, Autumn 1997
This article is about Louisiana Irises
In May 2012, before setting off for a walk in the foothills of Taygetus, members of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN SOCIETY met up in the garden of one of the leaders of the walk for coffee and cake.
This iris was flowering in her garden and must have had the label or packet available for me to know its exact name
iris Louisiana Black Gamecock

THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 10, Autumn 1997
Since I don't have a photo of Elsholtzia stauntonii, or even knowingly having seen it, I scanned the page of the journal with a drawing of it
Tom Wellsted supplied the photo which the drawing, by Derek Toms, was based

We don't have one growing in our garden because they don't sell them as far as i know in Cyprus. They are very attractive when in flower.
