Title: Quercus pubescens
Post by: Hilary on May 24, 2021, 08:17:10 AM
Quercus pubescens, Downy oak,

Χνοώδης βελανιδιά, Δρυς η χνοώδης

My son M returning to Sparta with his two daughters turned off the road and took the narrow road towards Karyes, Lakonia to see this tree
He subsequently posted photos on FB with this information

Χνοώδης δρυς (Quercus pubescens), στα όρια της Αράχωβας Σπάρτης... (το παιδί είναι 1,4m ύψος...). Ζούμε με μυθικά, μεγαλειώδη πλάσματα...!!!

Quercus pubescens , on the border of Arachova Sparta ….( The child is 1.4 m tall…). We live with/ among  grand, mythical beings

The photos were taken at 8 pm on 14th May with the sinking sun shining from the west and lighting up the tree so beautifully

Looking through THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN for some reference to Quercus pubescens I came across an article about a botanical garden in the north of Greece which we unfortunately did not visit, a case of so near and yet so far
