Gerania Mountain, Corinthia
Looking for the church of Saint Mary at Prathi

Like everyone else we have been confined to our local area for the past year. If we left the house, we had with us a paper with the reason we were out and when we had left home
Option number 6 was to exercise, walk a pet, alone or in pairs. Since we live near the sea, we were able to go swimming all summer and for walks along the beach side path in the winter.

However, I began to miss not being able to go for a walk in the woods and a change of scenery, never mind trips to Athens Sparta and Madrid.

From Saturday 3rd April, and only at weekends, we are allowed to get in the car and go further afield for our walks as long as we stay in the same region. Well, Corinthia is big enough for me to find a destination for each weekend until the swimming season starts

Yesterday we went in search of an old church named Saint Mary at Prathi which is somewhere on the Gerania mountain. We didn’t actually get that far but stopped at an olive grove in the middle of the pine forests. I enjoyed wandering among the olive trees on the carpet of daisies and yellow clover and snapped the bushes on the edge of the forest.

Gerania mountain, Corinthia

A stop on the way down the mountain at a forestry road

An old tortoise was crossing the road on our way back to civilization but I wasn’t quick enough to get out of the car and take a photo of him while he stopped to listen for danger, us. He then crossed the road and shuffled into a ditch.

Further down the mountain we stopped at a forestry road so that I could snap some wild flowers. There was evidence around that resin collecting is still going strong on Gerania with freshly cut trees and the tin collecting pans nearby waiting for the next time.

There were not many flowers and the ones I saw were very dried up. There was, however, a new plant to me in a difficult place for me to reach and from the photo it looks as if I was more interested in the dried mud than the flower!
Luckily there was a pretty rock rose nearby to make the stop worthwhile and when I got home, I found i had also captured some wildlife on the snap.

NARCISSI, ARUM LILIES AND POPPIES AI THEODORI

We always knew they grew onions at Ai Theodori but never knew they grew Narcissi and  Arum Lilies .

The poppies are a wild extra

Hilary I love the globularia but have not been able to acquire one As Yet. I have ordered it but due to Covid 19 things have not been going smoothly with plant orders etc. Your trips around your area are very interesting. I also noticed you have a lot of white daisies. We have lots of Yellow crown daisies every where.

Glad you like the photos from our adventures.

I am preparing a list of destinations for next Sunday for my husband to choose from.

Shame all the tavernas are closed
