I seem to be up to date with the Journal cover illustrations, If I have missed any issues please let me know.
Looking through past journals I see that there are articles I have not referred to and illustrators, whose work make the articles so interesting, not mentioned. Now my filing system is a bit of a mess but I thought I would fill the Saturday spot with a reference either to an article or an illustrator, hopefully with a photo or some other reference
This time being systematic and starting with Journal number 1 Summer 1995
It looks as if I have not managed to mention six articles in the first Journal so that should keep me busy for six weeks!

THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 1, Summer 1995
MEDITORIAL The first issue of THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN was jointly edited by Derek Toms and Caroline Harbouri, both founder members of the society.
The Meditorial explains the aims of the society and the journal and a call for articles and illustrations
Apart from the front cover illustration of the journal, which is an ink drawing by Yvonne Linardos, all of the illustrations as well as the society’s logo are the work of Derek Toms.
The page opposite the editor’s letter is usually illustrated by a plant suitable for the Mediterranean climate
In this case it is Salvia officinalis
The back cover of the journal is illustrated by a drawing of a tortoise and the logo of the society

What a good idea Hilary - I am fortunate to have every copy of the journal but feel this could be so interesting and useful to newer members. Let's hope some access this forum and discover more, not only about plants and gardens but also the Society. 👏

Excellent idea Hilary. I I look forward to reading them. My sister has moved to live here in the village so I was busy and did not respond to posting or posted the photos I have taken.

I was hoping someone would post a photo of a Greek Peony
Many thanks

ACCLIMATIZATION
PROBLEMS
Protection and
Cultivation Techniques
by Piero Caneti
In this article Bougainvillea is mentioned as not surviving temperature below zero unless placed in a sheltered position. I know that there are hardly any Bougainvillea plants growing in Sparta which experiences colder temperatures than we do in Corinth. The ones planted in a new park in Sparta did not survive the winter. We have a Bougainvillea in a pot facing south and against a wall which becomes warm in winter evenings when we light a wood fire in our living room.

Hilary, we are on the same wavelength. I have been there a couple of times, once when I took a group of members from Cyprus to Athens for a long-weekend trip. Since then I have been watching all the reports of the projects/improvements that have been taking place and am really looking forward to the day when we can go there again.
