Lavandula canariensis, Canary Island Lavender

Seen growing in the Royal Botanic Garden, Madrid in April 2018

In THE MEDITERRANEAN GARDEN number 39, January 2005 there is a book review of THE GENUS LAVANDULA where Lavandula canariensis is mentioned

I used a Lavandula canariensis when planting pots for a friend last year not thinking it would overwinter unless moved inside for protection but admiring both it's unusual leaves and intensely coloured flowers. With regular deadheading it produced flowers throughout the summer and I was pleasantly surprised to find it not only alive but already in bloom this week. Of course we had a very mild winter and early spring but it is good to know it will be enjoyed format least one more year.
