Vagaria (Pancratium) parviflora have started blooming at the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens and in nature. A real joy after a long - dry summer.
-
They are so beautiful. I would love to see the Jerusalem Botanical garden...I have Pancratium maritimum but they haven't flowered yet. Some have leaves, I am a bit worried as I think those wont flower...or do you know different? Have you had any rain this summer?
-
You are most welcome...
No rain this summer.
If your plants are planted in a sunny place, drained soil in Mediterranean climate, they will bloom.
-
A fresh report from today: Vagaria parviflora and Urginea maritima started to flower near the monastery of Latrun on the way to Jerusalem. Vagaria parviflora is growing between rocks in half-shade.

Fantastic pictures Ori and Miriam (and great to meet you here in this forum!)!
Here in the western mediterranean still nothing to see of Vagaria parviflora.
-
Miriam. sorry if this is a dumb question but why in the second image Vagarias are in flower in a row? Are they cultivated there?
-
Thanks Hans ;)
Alberto, the Vagarias in the second photo grow in a narrow gap between two large rocks...not cultivated.
However, in the garden of the monastery, they cultivated and planted some Vagaria parviflora and Urginea maritima (see photo).
-
Finally first flowers also here - wondering they start about two weeks later than in Israel where it might be drier than the Balearic Islands.
-
What a lovely picture, Hans!
-
Thanks a lot, Alisdair!
-
here is another species, from Morocco, Vagaria olivieri.
