Title: Recommended wildflower and grass seeds for a Mediterranean location
Post by: Paul Brown on July 21, 2018, 02:50:21 PM
I would like to upgrade an approximately 100m2 flat cultivated plot in front of a house in a very rural site north of Montpellier with a typical Mediterranean climate (mild winters, hot dry summers).  It's in full sun but can be watered automatically as needed.
My thought is to mix together a variety of perennial wildflower seeds (Vilmoran: fleurs de pré) with grass seed (fetuque elevée), water daily until September, then twice weekly until the weather turns cool.  I am aware that grass and flower seeds are an unusual mix, and that the grass may suppress the flowers) but I'd like a 'back-up' cover if the flower seeds don't 'take' - I do not want to go through the labor of recultivating next year!.   Any thoughts?
