Title: Leaves
Post by: Umbrian on November 08, 2017, 08:13:06 AM
As the leaves start to fall it is well worth bagging some up to rot down into leaf mould.
I was delighted to find that my efforts of the past two years had produced a large quantity that will be invaluable when replenishing the soil in my pots. The leaves were put into four, round, purpose bought containers made from a woven plastic material supported by a metal spiral when in use. This makes them easy to use as the leaves can be put in at waist height.  If the leaves are dry when gathered I sprinkle them with water to assist decomposition. They can then be left in a cool, shady position for nature to do its work. Of course in wilder areas of the garden I leave them where they fall but many Mediterranean plants cannot tolerate thick coverings of wet, decomposing leaves amd so a certain amount of clearing is necessary.
