I am glad Alisdair came up with something even I was able to guess, the Phytolacca. Here is another one that I suppose many of you will recognize.
-
Ok here's my go. Is it Hibiscus tiliaceus?
-
Sorry, not right.
-
Thought not colour right but stigma too clumped!
-
You are not that far away, though
-
Hibiscus trionum?
-
A bit further away than that
-
Is it an Hibiscus or another genera such as Alcea? I assume Malvaceae is correct?
-
Correct family, but wrong genus. I'm sure you have seen it.
-
Got it. It's Abelmoschus esculentus. Okra!
-
Of course, you were there when the photo was taken in Crete last autumn. I said it was an easy one.
-
I assumed it was then or you had grown them yourself this year.
-
Can we see a photo of the whole flower?
-
Here is the whole flower plus a closeup showing the stigma without pollen
-
Jorun, you are too kind... you should have let John struggle a bit more.... ;)
-
Probably just stupid, giving him too many clues
