This plant has taken a long time to settle in, but at last it is showing its true worth. I've taken cuttings, which struck quite easily, so that i can now spread it around the garden. I hope it's longer lasting than D. hirsutum which has let me down many times by dying when it reached maximum size.

I'd not heard of it before - I wonder if it's available here?
Time to start searching ;D

D. pentaphyllum does well in this damper garden in Toscana too, Fleur. It is more delicate in form than D. hirsutum, a smaller plant and lives longer. But it is liable to be overgrown by more vigorous neighbours. It loses its leaves in winter. It has set a few seeds and I have germinated a couple.

Oh, it loses its leaves with you? Not had any sign of that here even though we had a slight frost this winter that cut back a neighbouring malvaviscus. Must be an adaptation for more northern climes.
