Title: European copper skink
Post by: Alice on June 21, 2015, 07:32:21 PM
We have many of these small lizards in the garden. I hope I have identified them correctly as Ablepharus kitaibelii (European copper skink, Juniper skink, European snake-eyed skink). We find lots of them under the straw we use as mulch. Apparently they feed on insects and small snails.

Not exactly wildlife in the garden, this Fire Salamander was in the Pindus National Park in the Epirus region of Greece. Chris Gardner rescued it from the track in front of our vehicle before releasing it well away from danger, after a quick photo opportunity.
