No clues!

Rhodophiala bifida, makes beautifull clumps in the garden, blooms in autumn , unfortunatly flowers last only few days.
The spidery one is Ferraria crispa.

Lovely picture of the Rhodophiala, Pamela! Growing so naturally....
For the Ferraria, I'd have guessed F. densepunctulata rather than crispa, but dare not contradict Oron the Oracle!
For a picture of another Ferraria species, click here (http://www.mgsforum.org/smf/index.php?topic=166).

You are right!! I love them both.
By the way I have not been successful with Bessera elegans. I put a load in two years ago and also last year another tranche...not one has emerged. Are they difficult in alkaline dry soil?
-
You've left us on tenterhooks, Pamela! Densepunctulata or crispa, which??
And you've prompted me to put a note about Bessera elegans in the Bulbs section - you can see it if you click here (http://www.mgsforum.org/smf/index.php?topic=169).

It is...... Ferraria crispa.!!
-
I should have known it was silly of me to suggest anything different from Oron the Oracle! Thanks very much for an interesting challenge.... :)

Besser elegans being Mexican is dormant for a long winter. It should be dry then.

I've recently sent some Ferraria crispa seeds to Chantal for the seed exchange if anyone is interested is trying them. Mine grew from seeds from Sally (MGS garden) so I know they're F. crispa. Beware the strange smell.
