Title: Pruning Shrubs in Winter
Post by: Joanna Savage on January 13, 2015, 04:39:52 PM
For various reasons, mostly painting and decorating in the house, I am behind with what should have been autumn pruning. Of particular concern are Phlomis, Cistus,  Helichrysum and Santolina. They are all looking pretty miserable as we have had a run of sub zero temps. Even the Euphorbias look as though they would like to expire. I am seeking advice as to whether I prune now when there may be more cold ahead, or should I wait until the plants come alive again and start to grow.

Unless rots set in and threaten plant survival my preference would be to wait until all risk of frost and snow is passed.
