Grouping successful identifications
« on: June 05, 2012, 09:57:13 AM »
In this section Fleur, Oron and I have decided to try grouping some plants together, once they have been identified. So in future someone wanting to identify an orchid, say, would have all the orchid IDs grouped into one topic and could simply scan through that topic looking for a match.
We are trying this first with Orchids successfully identified.
There are snags: the most obvious is for instance when an ID of say Anacamptis morio "interrupts" a discussion on A. laxiflora. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do to make sure that each individual discussion is kept together without interruption, as the system automatically puts all postings in date order, and we can't then tinker with the order.
So in this example, Fleur's recent question about whether those orchids are Dactylorhizas will stay separate until it's answered, and will then be moved into the main orchid ID topic.
It will take some time to see whether doing this is actually helpful. If it does seem to be, then we may extend the system to some other main plant groups.
