I was walking with someone last week and she said she wished there was a way of sticking a plant in a scanner and have it identified that way.
I couldn't agree with her more
Can anyone identify this iris?
I have lent my RHS book to someone who seems loath  to return it

Iris louisiana 'Black Gamecock', an amazing cultivar for a medium size pot with water.

Hilary. This iris is happy in a pond, year round, as well.
Mine is just starting it's second year.

Daisy,
Lovely irises.
I have been going back to look at the wonderful photos of your flowery garden.
Very uplifting in these dire times.
I wondered if you had delphiniums at all.
In the untended back yards/ gardens here in Corinth there is always a patch of delphiniums at this time of year
Also snapdragons are very popular.

I love Iris flowers too. Here is its remote cousin, found in the A-MA-SING phrygana of Chios, April 2011. Probably an endemic to the island (I was not cutting it, just trying to convey its size).

Joe this is Moraea sisyrinchium [syn. gynandriris sisyirinchium] one of the most common bulbous plant in the Mediterranean.
There is a thread dedicated to it on Bulbs thread.

Moraea... so this is not to be confused with Iris or MorEAE that refers to our mulberry  :-[

Mulberry tree is Morus belonging to the Moraceae family.
Moraea is closely related to Iris, infact it used to be called  Iris sisyrinchium in the past.

This is another of those confusing, international, common name mix-ups. In Greek the Mulberry is sometimes known as Μουρια (pronounced Mouria, with the stress on the last a). A further example of why we have Botanical names.
