Although there was no surface water I suspect there was something under the surface where this plant was growing. A slightly greener area at the lowest part of the field which was otherwise very dry. I have looked through some pics of Mallows, Malopes and Lavateras for my area but haven't seen anything which quite matches this plant. That doesn't really mean anything, of course, as I am not a botanist  :)

The flowers were small, less than an inch across. Leaves quite sparse - though it was growing up through other plants. More delicate looking than the photos I have seen on the internet. Can anyone help? :)

I have a small garden in Rome, Italy. Some open soil, some concrete, some paved. Temperatures in winter occasionally down to 0°C. Summer temperatures up to 40°C in the shade. There are never watering restrictions but, of course, there is little natural water for much of June, July and August.
