In the current issue of Country Life, forum member Louisa Jones has written an article about the Jardin de l'Alchimiste in Provence, illustrated with beautiful photographs by Clive Nichols. Lots of really interesting and unusual ideas here, from the designers Arnaud Maurières and Eric Ossart, including a daring and unexpectedly successful red garden based around massed Prestige de Bellegarde floribunda roses. A bonus is that besides visiting the garden (it receives some 10,000 visitors a year), you can stay at the small luxury hotel of which it forms a part, the lovely 16th-century
Mas de la Brune.
(Off topic: the same issue contains "The Country Life Olympics", with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to the best of British - including my own choice of winning pubs. Well, I suppose they are Places to Visit, too
