Phacelia tanacetifolia, Tansy-leaf phacelia, Fiddleneck

I was given a packet of wild flower seeds to sow and a few of these plants grew.

Reading about this plant I discovered that it is native to the southwestern states of the USA and north Mexico. It is a superb plant in that it provides food for bees.
For that reason, it was introduced into Greece and is cultivated to provide food for bees.

As a bonus I also have a postage stamp from Bulgaria featuring Phacelia tanacetifolia.

Has anybody tried to grow any of the Tifway bermuda grasses, or Santa Ana?

Grass lawns have been a no no for a long time for many reasons but …the new Cynodon cultivars from the University of Georgia offer v good possibilties.

I know that » lawns » are not the flavour of the month!

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FIRESAFE LANDSCAPING IN CALIFORNIA
by Judith Thomas
The recommendations apply to all places threatened by fires.
Here in Greece, I believe all empty plots of land in towns, by law, should be mown and all inflammable rubbish takes away. I see here in Corinth   that several large empty plots have been cleared ( photo) but a strip between the road and a fenced plot not mown, (photo) who owns it?
And just to be contrary I am including a photo taken in Sparta several years ago which I always think of as Olivier Filippi’s    GOLD IS GOOD.
